Following the release of a report this week, Newbattle High School has received a 'good' rating from Education Scotland.
The school, and its staff, were praised for the quality of its teaching and assessment standards, with inspectors singling out its use of digital technology.
Peter Smaill, Councillor for Midlothian East commented: The positive report on Newbattle High confirms the impact of the specialisation on IT excellence.
Overall, the school can perform well considering demographics, and in its early years progressed well to show improvements on absentee, disruptive behaviour and exclusion problems.
Along with much of the Scottish school estate, Covid presented tough challenges, and continuing efforts under strong leadership to preserve and extend those gains associated with the new school remains vital.
Newbattle has played its part in showing an uptick in pupil-positive destinations, and Midlothian’s position relative to the rest of Scotland allows for cautious optimism.”
