CRAIG Hoy, a Conservative MSP for South Scotland, has visited SELECT’s Headquarters in Penicuik to find out more about the work of the trade organisation in supporting electricians across Scotland.
As Scotland’s largest construction trade association, SELECT is calling for regulation of the electrical industry, including a law requiring electricians to be certified in Scotland.
During his visit, Craig Hoy added his name to SELECT’s Wall of Support, which shows the politicians, businesses and individuals who are supporting the introduction of protection of title for electricians.
The South Scotland MSP commented: “I was delighted to join representatives from SELECT to find out more about how the organisation is supporting Scotland’s electricians through ongoing advice and training support.
“There are thousands of people in Scotland claiming to be electricians without adequate training or certification. This is a serious risk to public safety, and we need support in law for qualified electricians.”
Alan Wilson, SELECT Managing Director, said: “We were only too pleased to host Mr Hoy at The Walled Garden and we are delighted that he has added his name to our Wall of Support.
“The issue of rogue electricians continues to be an issue, so securing the cross-party support of politicians like Mr Hoy will help us protect the safety of consumers and businesses across Scotland.”
