Scottish Conservative and Unionist MSP Jeremy Balfour for Lothian has welcomed a series of measures from Chancellor Rishi Sunak in his Spring Statement.
Jeremy Balfour says that the plans to cut the basic rate of income tax for those in the Lothians in 2024 is particularly welcome.
Jeremy Balfour has now called on the SNP Government to match the Chancellor’s commitment on income tax.
He added that the five pence cut in fuel duty will also help motorists, especially in rural and remote communities in Lothian.
He added that Rishi Sunak’s support for motorists is in stark contrast to the SNP-Green coalition’s anti-motorist policies.
Jeremy Balfour says the increase in National Insurance thresholds will also be a boost for the lowest paid in the Lothians during the cost-of-living crisis.
He added that they also welcomed further support for businesses, with the employment allowance increased to £5,000 for small businesses in Lothian.
Scottish Conservative and Unionist MSP Jeremy Balfour said: “Rishi Sunak has stepped up once again and delivered a welcome support package for people and businesses in the Lothians.
“A cut in income tax will put more money in the pocket of every taxpayer and the onus is now on the SNP to match the Chancellor’s plans for taxpayers in the Lothians
“A cut in fuel duty at this time is particularly welcome for our rural and remote communities in Lothian. Rishi Sunak’s support for motorists is in stark contrast to the SNP-Green coalition who want to drive cars off the road.
“Increasing National Insurance thresholds is a boost for the lowest-paid and I also welcome the extra support for small businesses in the Lothians with the increases in employment allowance.
“I am fully committed to supporting constituents in the Lothians during this cost-of-living crisis and Rishi Sunak’s support can help in that regard.”
