Scottish Conservative and Unionist MSP Jeremy Balfour for Lothian is calling on the SNP Government to guarantee every pupil in Lothian will be able to sit national school exams this year as planned.
Jeremy Balfour’s call comes after SNP Education Secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville said on Sunday that a decision on whether exams will be cancelled may not be made until the end of March.
Jeremy Balfour says pupils and parents in Lothian cannot continue to be left in the dark until then, after the upheaval of the last two years of the pandemic.
Scottish Conservative and Unionist MSP Jeremy Balfour said: “The SNP must assure every pupil in Lothian that they will be able to sit their exams this year as planned.
“Another year of exam chaos is unthinkable given the uncertainty pupils have endured over the last couple of years.
“Our young people, teachers and parents in Lothian cannot be left in the dark until the end of March. That is far too late to be making a decision.
“Pupils in Lothian deserve a return to a normal school experience, rather than the SNP continuing to cancel exams year after year.
“I will continue to push the SNP Education Secretary to make this decision as soon as possible and to demand that standards across Scotland’s once-proud education system are restored to the levels they were at before the SNP came to power.”
