LOCAL MSP Craig Hoy is calling on the SNP Government to guarantee that every pupil in Midlothian will be able to sit national school exams this year as planned.
Craig’s call comes after SNP Education Secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville said that a decision on whether exams will be cancelled may not be made until the end of March.
Craig says pupils and parents in Midlothian cannot continue to be left in the dark until then, after the upheaval of the last two years of the pandemic.
Mr Hoy said: “The SNP must assure every pupil in Midlothian that they will be able to sit their exams this year as planned.
“Another year of exam chaos is unthinkable given the uncertainty pupils have endured over the last couple of years.
“Our young people, teachers and parents cannot be left in the dark until the end of March. That is far too late to be making a decision.
“Pupils in Midlothian deserve a return to a normal school experience, rather than having exams cancelled year after year.
“I will continue to push the SNP Education Secretary to make this decision as soon as possible and to demand that standards across Scotland’s once-proud education system are restored to the levels they were at before the SNP came to power.”
